Compact and easy to use, RECON® Australia Chemical Light Sticks provide illumination for camping, emergency preparedness, map reading and marking equipment, routes or positions.
Each stick measures 6 inches (15.2 cm) and provides up to 12 hours of light, with brightness gradually decreasing after activation.*
Up to 12 hours of illumination* following activation.
Simple activation: bend to break the internal vial, then shake to mix.
No batteries or external power required.
Compact 6-inch design for convenient carrying and storage.
Available in red, yellow, blue, orange, white, green and infrared (IR).
Chemical light sticks produce their strongest illumination shortly after activation. Brightness then gradually decreases throughout the operating period.
The stated up to 12-hour duration refers to the approximate total illumination period, rather than continuous operation at maximum brightness.
Temperature affects performance:
Warmer conditions generally produce a brighter glow but may shorten its duration.
Colder conditions generally produce a less intense glow but may extend its duration.
Actual brightness and operating time will vary with storage and operating conditions.
Shelf life is approximately 1–4 years, depending on storage conditions. Store in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and excessive heat.
For emergency or life-saving applications, we recommend replacement every 12 months, together with regular checks for damage and any applicable expiry dates.
Since 1 January 2023, these light sticks have generally been supplied without individual wrapping.
This change supports bulk purchasing requirements and helps reduce unnecessary single-use plastic packaging. Packaging may vary between batches.
Keep your light sticks organized and accessible with the RECON GS2S 4 × Chemical Light Stick Holder.
How do I activate a light stick?
Gently bend the stick until the internal glass vial breaks, then shake to mix the contents. Do not cut, puncture or excessively bend the outer tube.
Will it remain equally bright for 12 hours?
No. Light output is strongest shortly after activation and gradually decreases. Temperature also affects brightness and duration.
How does the infrared version work?
An infrared light stick uses a chemical reaction to emit infrared light rather than visible light. Its output is intended to be viewed using compatible night vision devices or infrared-sensitive cameras. It is not suitable as a visible light source for map reading or general illumination.
What should I do if a stick leaks?
Discontinue use immediately. Avoid contact with the contents, which may stain surfaces and fabrics. Do not use damaged or leaking sticks, and dispose of them according to the product safety information and local requirements.
Is safety information available?
Yes. A Safety Data Sheet (SDS/MSDS) is available upon request.
Illumination duration is approximate. Light output decreases over time and varies with temperature, storage and operating conditions.
Please note: Infrared light sticks are intended for marking positions / equipment and or use with compatible night vision equipment they do not provide projected light like a flashlight..
