Pneumothorax Air Release Needle Decompression Kit (Disposable)
A Pneumothorax Air Release Needle Decompression Kit, like the ARS® or SPEAR, isa critical medical device used to treattension pneumothorax, a life-threatening condition where trapped air collapses the lung by inserting a needle/catheter into the chest to release pressure, featuring strong needles (often 10g or 14g), a secure catheter, and indicators for successful placement, allowing emergency responders to quickly decompress the pleural space in trauma cases.
FDA Approved.
Used for emergency relief and temporary management of suspected tension pneumothorax. Catheter-over-needle placement facilitates introduction of a smallbore drainage catheter into the pleural cavity. The set is supplied in a sealed plastic bag with sealed pen holder for transportation in emergency vehicles, and in your IFAK Kit.
A pneumothorax air release needle decompression kit is a life-saving device fortrained medical personnel only.Improper use by an untrained individual can lead to severe, life-threatening injuries, including heart and lung laceration, hemorrhage, and even death.
Key Warnings and Precautions for Use
For Trained Personnel Only: This device must be used only by persons who have received training on the treatment of tension pneumothorax, such as paramedics, military medics, and emergency clinicians.
Diagnose Correctly: The procedure is for atensionpneumothorax, a life-threatening medical emergency. It is not intended for a simple pneumothorax or hemothorax. Incorrect placement or misdiagnosis can create a pneumothorax in an uninjured lung.
Identify Correct Site: Ensure correct anatomical placement (typically the 2nd intercostal space at the midclavicular line or the 4th/5th intercostal space at the anterior axillary line, depending on protocol). Placing the needle medial to the mid-clavicular line can risk injury to the heart or great vessels.
Single-Use Only: The kit is a sterile, single-use device. Do not attempt to clean or reuse it, as this may lead to infection or device failure.
Check Expiration and Packaging: Always check the expiration date and ensure the packaging is intact and undamaged before use.
Monitor Patient Continually: After insertion, the patient must be continually monitored. The catheter can become kinked or occluded, leading to the return of life-threatening symptoms.
Risk of Complications: Potential adverse complications include incomplete relief of tension pneumothorax, cardiac injury, infection, injury to nerves, lung laceration, and bleeding.
Dispose of Properly: The needle and catheter must be disposed of in appropriate sharps containers and following medical protocols.
