The zippered main pocket can carry 14" laptop or iPad4, a couple of medium sized books.

Two zippered pockets on front can be used to hold cell phone, wallet, credit card. The open pocket on front can be used to hold tissue, cigarette case size items.

The side pocket can be easily reached to stash something like multi-tool, Swiss Army Knife or EDC item.
