Expose the cat eyes to daylight or a suitable artificial light source to charge the photoluminescent material. Once moved into darkness, the eyes produce an afterglow that gradually reduces in brightness over time.
For the strongest initial glow, expose the patch to a bright light source before entering dark conditions.
It is easy to assume that reflective and glow-in-the-dark materials are the same thing, but there is an important difference in the way they work.
Reflective material does not produce or store light. Instead, it becomes highly visible when light from another source — such as a torch, vehicle headlights or other illumination — strikes the material and is reflected back towards the viewer. Remove the external light source and the reflective effect disappears.
Glow-in-the-dark material, also known as photoluminescent material, works differently. It absorbs energy while exposed to daylight or a suitable artificial light source. When moved into darkness, that stored energy is gradually released as a visible afterglow. This means the material can continue to glow even after the original light source has been removed.
The term “luminous” is also sometimes used to describe materials that appear to give off light. However, it is a broader term and does not explain the technology as precisely as photoluminescent or glow-in-the-dark.

Expose the eyes to daylight or a suitable artificial light source and the photoluminescent sections absorb energy. When the surrounding environment becomes dark, the stored energy is released as an afterglow — creating the distinctive effect of the Devils Cat Eyes coming alive in the darkness.
The glow will naturally be strongest shortly after charging and will gradually become dimmer over time. The intensity and duration of the afterglow can vary according to the strength of the light source, the length of exposure and surrounding conditions.
In simple terms: reflective material needs light shining on it to be seen; these glow-in-the-dark cat eyes can continue glowing after the light source has been removed.
