Technology

Components of 3-Layer Fabric
A typical 3-layer waterproof-breathable fabric consists of:
  1. 1. Outer Layer:
    A protective face fabric, often made of nylon or polyester, designed to repel water and provide durability.
    2. Middle Layer:
  2. A waterproof and breathable membrane, which is either a microporous PTFE (film, or a PU/TPU coating, that prevents liquid water from entering while allowing water vapor (sweat) to escape.
    3. Inner Layer:
  3. A soft lining, such as polar fleece or a tricot knit, which enhances comfort against the skin and helps wick away moisture.

    Common Technologies
  • PTFE Membranes:
    Used in high-performance fabrics, PTFE membranes are known for their excellent waterproof and breathable properties.
    PU/TPU Membranes:
  • Polyurethane (PU) and Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) offer effective waterproofing and breathability, with TPU often considered an eco-friendly option.Popular Materials and Applications
  • Nylon and Polyester:
